Relocation checklist
Move to Dubai with a staged, evidence-led checklist.
A successful move depends on sequencing residence, documents, housing, school, healthcare and daily logistics. Use this checklist as a planning framework and verify every authority requirement for your own circumstances.
General information and initial coordination only. Authority decisions remain independent.
Clarify the route before committing
- Write down the likely residence basis and authority that must verify it.
- List every traveller and dependant separately.
- Check passport validity and civil-document needs with the authorised route.
- Build a first-year household budget using current quotations.
- Identify decisions that should remain conditional on approval or availability.
Create a secure document register
Record the document name, owner, purpose, issuing country, current status, expiry, whether translation or attestation may be required and who authorised the request. Avoid circulating sensitive copies through general messages or enquiry forms.
Share only the specific document required, through the secure official or authorised channel, after confirming the recipient and purpose.
Shortlist areas using the weekday routine
Compare commute, school access, healthcare, transport, unit type, contract terms and complete occupancy cost. Keep temporary accommodation and longer-term housing as separate decisions if the residence or school pathway is not yet confirmed.
Sequence school and healthcare
- Use KHDA’s directory for the school shortlist.
- Confirm grade availability and admissions steps directly.
- Review the current fee fact sheet and additional family costs.
- Confirm health coverage and provider network for each person.
- Carry essential medical information through an appropriate secure route.
Plan the first two weeks by dependency
List the authority, employer, school, housing, connectivity and transport steps in the order they can actually happen. Assign an owner and evidence requirement to each. Keep receipts, official references and issued documents organised, and check names, dates and conditions when each item is received.
Stabilise and review the plan
Review the household budget, commute, school routine, healthcare access, outstanding authority steps and renewal calendar after the first month and again before the end of the initial period. Record what remains temporary and what is now confirmed.
Residence, identification, housing, school and coverage status.
Resolve inaccurate issued details through the relevant channel.
Record renewals, expiries and preparation lead times.
Store sensitive information with controlled access.
Verify current requirements
Sources reviewed on 24 August 2026. Requirements and service channels can change; confirm the exact route with the relevant authority before acting.
Turn the move into a dependency plan.
